This is the story of Skywise's birth and his father Shale's death. Skywise' mom while pregnant climbed to the top of a tall pine and looked at the clear stars for nights on end, pretending to speak to Skywise.This story is set before ElfQuest the original series. Skywise and Brownberry are lovers who encounter upon a human named "Taf" who murdered Shale. This is what happened:Taf and his brother had seen Skywise' mom for many nights climb the same tree and wait in the birds nest on top. They decided to wait for her one night, and when they found her, Shale arrived to see the brothers stone his wife. She fell out of the tree, and gave birth soon thereafter. Shale was killed on the group, and his wife died shortly after giving birth to Skywise.This retroactively explains why, in the original Quest, we see a history for Skywise which would make his hatred and mistrust of humans sensible. Thus, he could not believe when Cutter stood before humans in peace in ElfQuest #12.
